On Sunday, March 23, Sarjis Alam made a post under the title “Some Revisions, Additions, and Omissions from My End Regarding the March 11 Meeting with the Army Chief.”
He wrote, “That day, Hasnat and I went to speak with the Army Chief. Another key member of our party was also supposed to accompany us, but due to a personal issue at the last moment, they couldn’t go. Let me clarify from the outset: we were not summoned to the cantonment that day. Rather, whenever necessary, we used to exchange queries and responses through messages with the Military Adviser to the Army Chief.”
Sarjis further stated, “From my perspective, I don’t see that day’s statement as a direct ‘proposal’ but rather as a ‘straightforward expression of opinion.’ There is a distinction between ‘expressing an opinion’ and ‘making a proposal.’ However, compared to before, the Army Chief spoke in a much more straightforward manner that day.
Regarding the notion of ‘pressuring’ for a refined Awami League, I did not get the impression that pressure was being exerted. Rather, he was expressing, with great confidence, that if a refined Awami League does not emerge, it will lead to long-term challenges for the country’s situation and political parties.”
He added, “Given the tone in which Hasnat’s Facebook post was presented, I don’t think the conversation was that extreme.”
